The New General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (abbreviated as NGC) is a catalogue of deep-sky objects compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888. The NGC contains 7,840 objects, known as the NGC objects. It is one of the largest comprehensive catalogues, as it includes all types of deep space objects, including galaxies, star clusters, emission nebulae and absorption nebulae.

NGC 568
NGC 568, also commonly referred as IC 1709 is a lenticular galaxy in the constellation of Sculptor. The galaxy is 266 million light-years from Earth and was discovered by John Herschel on November 29, 1837, and Lewis Swift, an American astronomer who listed it and gave it the name IC 1709 on September 4, 1897.
