The New General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (abbreviated as NGC) is a catalogue of deep-sky objects compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888. The NGC contains 7,840 objects, known as the NGC objects. It is one of the largest comprehensive catalogues, as it includes all types of deep space objects, including galaxies, star clusters, emission nebulae and absorption nebulae.

NGC 6956


NGC 6956 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Delphinus. It is located at a distance of about 214 million light-years from Earth. Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel discovered this galaxy on 9 October 1784. Three supernovae have been observed in NGC 6956: SN 2006it (type IIP, mag. 17.6), SN 2013fa (type Ia, mag. 16.2), and SN PSNJ20435314+1230304 (type Ia, mag. 15.8, discovered 11 July 2015).
